Solem Quartet (String Quartet)

Recent winners of the 2014 Royal Overseas League Ensemble Competition, the Solem Quartet were brought together in September 2011 by their studies at the University of Manchester, where they take their name from the University motto “arduus ad solem”, meaning “striving towards the sun”.

Caliente presents an engaging, stimulating and accessible event, rooted in classical music with jazz influences as well as new works by award winning composer, Andy Scott. Featuring Clare Southworth (flute), Lauren Scott (harp) and Andy Scott (saxophone).

Programme

Zephyr Winds (wind quintet)

Formed by clarinettist Chris Swann in 1980 this energetic woodwind quintet is comprised of renowned and experienced musicians drawn from Britain's leading orchestras. Often working as a sextet with piano and occasionally bringing in friends and colleagues from other sections of the orchestra, the ensemble embraces opportunities to perform in a variety of instrumental combinations.
