THE MARCHES SONGBOOK

William Smith – Tenor
Patrick Larley – Piano
Gill Larley – Storyteller

Tonight’s concert of songs and stories of the borderlands is brought to you by the Marches Songbook. Tenor, William Smith is co-director and founder of “The Marches Songbook”. The Marches Songbook exists to create new songs from partnerships between local poets and composers of the English and Welsh border counties. This program features four premieres (*) from the “cross border folksong” project, a collaboration between the “cross border poets society” based in Harwarden and Wrexham county composer Patrick Larley. Further songs in this program have been composed by Chester composer Michael Williams. Gill Larley is our story teller and will set tonight’s songs into the story landscape of the border lands peoples and places. All the performers and creatives from tonight’s program are connected to the English and Welsh border counties. The “cross border folksongs” project was made possible through crowd funding and the support of “Ty Cerdd” the welsh arts organisation.
We hope you enjoy tonight’s concert based on local stories as told by the poets and composers of this place.
