Caliente presents an engaging, stimulating and accessible event, rooted in classical music with jazz influences as well as new works by award winning composer, Andy Scott. Featuring Clare Southworth (flute), Lauren Scott (harp) and Andy Scott (saxophone).

Clare Southworth is internationally acclaimed as one of the leading flutists of her generation. Clare enjoys a highly successful and varied career as performer, teacher and author. She is renowned for her innovative programming, embracing a wide repertoire, and for her ability to combine performance with tuition at the highest level. Her many prizes include, International First Prize Winner of America’s NFA Competition, Winner of North West Arts Platform and Prize Winner of the Madeira International Flute Competition. CD recordings include: Sonatas, Classic Touch, Miyazawa Plays Caliendo and The Bad Tempered Flute. Her books “Flute Aerobics”, “Light Aerobics”, “Sequentials” and “The Expression of Colour”, are best sellers. She is Director of Just Flutes “International Flute Summer School”, and author of “Flutefiles”, podcasts covering all aspects of flute technique. Clare is Professor at the Royal Academy of Music. She is a Miyazawa International Artist and flute editor of Astute Music.

Composer & saxophonist Andy Scott is respected as a creative musician who instigates projects, ensembles and collaborations. His Concerto for Two Saxophones, Dark Rain, was awarded First Prize in the British Composer Awards 2006. 2012 saw Branford Marsalis & the Scottish Chamber Orchestra give the world premiere of ‘Laissez les bons temps rouler!’ at the World Saxophone Congress. Andy’s ‘Crossing Waves’ commission for Solo Harp was premiered at Carnegie Hall, NYC in October 2010, the same month that his debut CD of compositions for Foden’s Brass Band was awarded British Bandsman CD of the Year. World famous guitarist Craig Ogden has commissioned a concerto from Andy in 2015. Andy performed ‘Concerto for Stan Getz’ by Sir Richard Rodney Bennett with the BBC Concert Orchestra at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, broadcast live by BBC Radio 3. For 27 years he has played with the Apollo Saxophone Quartet; touring Europe and Asia, and broadcasting many times for BBC Radio. Tutor of Saxophone at the Royal Northern College of Music, Andy is published by Astute Music, is an endorsee of Selmer Paris Saxophones & Vandoren, and was Vice President of the International Saxophone Committee.

LAUREN SCOTT has played the harp since the age of 6. After studying at Chethams School of Music and the special music course at Pimlico School, London, Lauren attended Trinity College of Music, studying with Sioned Williams and winning several solo performance awards. An experienced solo, chamber and orchestral musician, over the last 20 years Lauren has worked as guest principal harp with many of the UK's leading orchestras including the RLPO, RSNO, Halle, CBSO, BBCSSO, BBCSO. 

She has performed at major festivals like Edinburgh, Cheltenham and BBC Proms, and has also performed with chamber orchestras such as Northern Chamber Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Britten Sinfonia, Psappha and Ensemble Cymru. Lauren has played in West End shows, with artists such as Robbie Williams and Katherine Jenkins and also in venues as diverse as the Tower of London and HMS Illustrious. 

A passionate chamber musician, Lauren is currently working in duos with soprano Anna-Clare Monk, flutist Clare Southworth, Harp2harp with Eleanor Hudson as well as Caliente Trio. Lauren is also chairman of the United Kingdom Harp Association.
